SINGAPORE - Rising Internet penetration and a youth population that is obsessed with spending time online are the key drivers of Cubinet Interactive's regional expansion plans as it looks to expand its portfolio of online offerings.

The Malaysian digital games publisher, known for its massively multi-player online games, is looking into opportunities to deliver other online entertainment products like videos, music and e-books.

"Asia has a youth population with a high literacy rate. Together with increasing penetration of broadband Internet spanning across computers and mobile devices and a healthy regional economy … we see a lot of potential," said Chief Executive Andy Choe (picture above).

Cubinet's growth prospects have been noticed by MediaCorp, which has taken a majority stake in the gaming firm in its first investment in such a company. "We feel there is a tremendous amount of synergy play between us that is also in line with our vision to be a top online entertainment provider," said Mr Choe.

Founded in 2006 by a group of gaming enthusiasts, Cubinet has published 32 games in five countries in South-east Asia so far. It also has an online point-base redemption system, casual platform games and an online comic portal. Since then, the company has grown from an eight-member team to a staff of 150 across Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam and the Philippines. Mr Choe said that has translated into steady revenue growth that has been in line with expectations.
